Hemmed in the Hollow

Hemmed in Hollow is a 5 mile trail in the Ponca Wilderness located near Compton, Arkansas. The Ozark Mountain Region.  The trail leads to a beautiful waterfall named Hemmed in Hollow Falls, listed as the tallest waterfalls between the Appalachians and the Rockies.

Their claim to fame is not the volume of water but the height from which the water descends.  The Falls seldom completely quit flowing.  Even in the dry Summer there is a bit of water coming down. (ozarkmountainregion.com)

The trail is a bit rugged and rated a 5 out of 5 diamond difficulty, and is not for the faint of heart.  It can be slippery with the damp moss, and the inclines are quite steep.  But it is worth it to see all of the beauty nature has to offer while making your way through this hike.  Plenty of water is a must if you go on a warm day, and your legs can feel plenty rubbery when you have finished.   Spring and Fall are beautiful times of year to visit this gem of a place.

Spontaneous or even planned road trips can be a lot of fun and a learning experience.

Stay tuned for my next adventure in Jackson Hole, WY.
